Creation From Chaos

Jesus has just calmed a violent storm at sea, he now meets a man with an equally violent storm inside him. In both cases, the power of Jesus prevails over chaos and destruction. The purpose of the healing of the Gerasene demoniac, as with the stilling of the storm on the lake, is not simply to leave readers awestruck at Jesus’ power, however, but to prompt them to consider “‘how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you’” (Mark 5:19). Once again Jesus is connoted with God, for the Lord who has healed the demoniac is none other than Jesus
